During his tense divorce from his third wife, Karen Spencer, Charles Spencer is talking candidly about his developing relationship with his podcast co-host, Dr. Cat Jarman.
For the first time, the 60-year-old 9th Earl Spencer and 42-year-old Norwegian archaeologist Jarman discussed their love story in a new interview with The Mail on Sunday, which was published on Nov. 24.
After Jarman visited Althorp House, the Spencer family’s ancestral home in Northamptonshire, England, for archeological research, the novelist and historian 9th Earl Spencer met her in 2021. Later, in 2023, they started the famous Rabbit Hole Detectives podcast with Rev. Richard Coles, which has spawned a book of the same name.
After over 13 years of marriage, Charles Spencer and his wife, Karen, announced their divorce in June. According to reports, when he and Princess Diana formally divorced in 1996, he used the same lawyer as King Charles had. The Earl Spencer was referred to as “not-yet-divorced” in the recent interview by The Mail on Sunday.
The frank interview between Charles and Jarman follows The Telegraph’s October story about Jarman, 42, suing Karen, 52, for allegedly misusing personal data.
When contacted Charles and Karen at the time, they declined to comment, and Jarman’s legal team did not immediately reply.
On Sunday in June, Charles told The Mail that he was “becoming close to” Jarman after announcing his divorce from Karen. In an article packed of shocking facts, the pair gave The Mail their most candid interview to date on Sunday. They joked over what to call each other.
Charles was also writing A Very Private School, his memoir, during this time. He wrote the book, which detailed his horrific boarding experience, over the course of five years.
