The couple moved to Munich after getting married, where they had three kids: Hubertus in 1966, Désirée in 1963, and Carl Christian in 1962.
Despite their 1990 split, the couple stayed wed until Prince Johann Georg passed away in 2016.
Princess Birgitta lived on the island of Mallorca in her later years, where she became passionate about golf and organized her own event.
