At first, it looked a little disappointing when Michael Emerson made his debut in this week’s Elsbeth.
Usually, the episode begins with a murder committed by the well-known guest star, after which we see Elsbeth (together with the police, of course) figure out what occurred and send the well-known guest star straight to jail.
About Elsbeth and the story
Unless you’re allegedly married to the show’s star, you simply don’t get to stay around if you’re the murderer. Being as good at villainy as Michael Emerson also helps.
In ‘One Angry Woman’, Emerson’s Milton Crawford sneaked into an apartment, killed a guy with a baseball bat, and then slipped out again before the deceased’s partner or girlfriend had finished taking a shower.
After that, the show cut to a trial where the girlfriend/lover was charged with murder. The man who had actually committed the crime in Crawford was the judge at the trial, and he now had the authority to make things as awful as they could be for her.
Fortunately, that week Elsbeth had been called up for jury service. Because she was a lawyer, she assumed she would be dismissed, but Judge Crawford was intent on making the jury as disorganised as possible, which was a clear warning sign to New York’s top red flag detector.
Despite Judge Crawford’s best efforts, Elsbeth persuaded the jury to acquit, and now she has a new adversary who is quite suspicious.
Preston and Emerson, who have been married since 1998, have previously collaborated frequently. They have both had significant roles in Robert and Michelle King productions for many years, and she portrayed the love of his life on Person of Interest. However, they are playing opponents for the first time.
Both performers are doing what they do best, so even though the couple’s relationship is novel, it seems natural on television.
