On October 31, 2024, Australian legend John Farnham will release his memoir, The Voice Inside. Many newspapers have begun to cover some of the book’s startling revelations ahead of its release.
Award-winning writer and filmmaker Poppy Stickel, who recently starred in John Farnham: Finding the Voice (2023), collaborated on the new tell-all.
John Farnham’s Fight With Mouth Cancer
In this memoir, John Farnham’s is incredibly candid about everything from his battle with oral cancer to the abuse he received from his first boss. These are just a few of the book’s most unexpected discoveries.
According to John’s memoir, which The Guardian was able to get, “I was told later that someone from the medical team called Jillian a couple of times while I was in the theater – apparently I was very close to dying.”
John Farnham’s First Manager Mistreated him
John Farnham talked about how he got started in the music business as a naive youngster in his recently released memoir. According to Poppy, “it is a very predatory industry,” as she told The Guardian.
John described how his first manager, Darryl Sambell, mistreated him by giving him amphetamines to increase his energy levels before shows and sneaking him sleeping pills in the morning.
John Farnham went on to say that he never questioned any of it, telling himself that it was because he was young, anxious, exhausted, and yet unsure of his own intuition.
John went on to discuss his first manager’s mistreatment of him, claiming that he was “aggressively sexual” with him. John Farnham disclosed that he would have to resist his advances on a regular basis.
